The 560km Challenge Recap
Rodney Cottam’s 560km journey across New South Wales was nothing short of extraordinary. Over seven gruelling days, Rodney pushed his physical and mental limits, proving that resilience and determination can achieve incredible things. This challenge wasn’t just about running—it was about raising awareness and funds for Invictus Australia, supporting those who serve or have served our nation.
The journey began in the early hours, with Rodney setting out under starry skies, often facing extreme conditions. From the scorching 30-degree heat in Penrith to thunderstorms in the Blue Mountains, each kilometre brought its own challenges. Yet, Rodney’s mindset remained unwavering. With Amanda, his rock, and supporters like Recee and Logan, he tackled technical trails, climbed steep ascents, and even navigated Lane Cove National Park in the dark, battling leeches along the way.
Rodney wasn’t alone in this journey. Supporter Kate from Invictus Australia joined the effort, offering her encouragement and reinforcing the importance of the cause. Their combined efforts showcased the incredible community spirit that fuels this challenge.
The route was filled with highlights: the trails of Lane Cove National Park, a quick lap around Mount Panorama, and the iconic crossing of the Sydney Harbour Bridge on the final day. Throughout, Rodney’s humour and determination shone through, whether it was fuelling up on Frozen Cokes, looping streets to hit every metre, or starting his days with motivational tracks like Bad to the Bone.
The challenge ended in style with a warm welcome at Resimac’s Sydney office, surrounded by partners, friends, and family. But the mission isn’t over—donations are still open to help Rodney reach his fundraising goal for Invictus Australia.
This 560km journey stands as a testament to Rodney’s grit, the power of teamwork, and the unwavering support of the community. Thank you to everyone who cheered, donated, and believed in the cause. Together, we’ve shown what’s possible when we run with purpose.

Completed: Rodney 'Rocket' Cottam's 500km Trail Run
Rodney 'Rocket' Cottam completed his second trail run challenge, covering a gruelling 500km in just 106 hours, averaging an incredible 100km per day. From Monday, 3rd July to Friday, 7th July 2023, Rodney's journey took him from the Mid-North Coast, NSW, down the eastern coast of Australia, through breathtaking ocean views, lush rainforests, small towns, and farmland, culminating in the heart of Sydney at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park.
This challenge tested not only physical endurance but also mental resilience. With a dedicated support team of four, a Defender, and a campervan as their mobile base, Rodney and his crew navigated the demanding terrain and sleep deprivation, often running through the night. The campervan provided crucial rest periods, allowing the team to manage the intense demands of the challenge.
Powered by his unwavering resilience and determination, Rodney's efforts supported Invictus Australia, raising funds and awareness for this vital cause. This achievement marks another milestone in Rodney's ongoing mission to inspire and educate others on the power of resilience and the importance of facing adversity head-on.
